I update WordPress myself. Why would I need you?
Updates are necessary, but not enough. A WordPress site is built from dozens of plugins and themes written by different authors, and each one is another door that can be opened.
- Holes come from plugins, not WordPress. Most vulnerabilities found each year are in plugins and themes, and some are no longer maintained by anyone and will never get an update.
- The attack comes before the update. Days or weeks can pass between a hole going public and you updating. Automated scripts start looking for it within hours.
- Updates don't fix the configuration. Visible admin users, active xmlrpc, weak passwords, exposed files or email without SPF and DMARC stay the same after an update.
- Updates can break the site, which is why many businesses put them off. Without backups and someone checking the site after each update, putting them off becomes the rule.
- Nobody is watching. Without monitoring, you hear about a breach from customers, your bank or Google flagging your site as dangerous.
What's the difference between the Minimum Package and Shield?
